New Year’s Eve invariably brings about thoughts of nostalgia. Whether we have done things right during the past year. Whether we wish to re-live the ending year. Or forget it as a year of mistakes and regret. I came across this old song below and would like to share it with you this New Year season. It stirred up many wistful reminiscences in my heart. Bittersweet recollections of days and years gone by. But also the twinkle of a happy tear.
I did wonder how David Archuleta would sing that tear-jerker of a song. His voice always has an ability to connect our hearts to such heart-rending emotions.
Such beautiful heart-tugging lyrics:
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to time
Re-living in our eloquence
Another Auld Lang Syne
Time rolls by whatever sentiments we have for the beginning of another year. The thing to do is to move forward with time – Hope and Joy in ourselves and Love and Kindness for all.
Here are sincere wishes for everyone who comes in here. And for all those who share our continual love for the amazing talent that is David Archuleta. 🙂
We’ve come to the end of David Archuleta’s Christmas Season with Nathan Pacheco. It had been Divine! Emotional on many levels.
The very beautiful Sacramento Crest Theatre – the last venue
This is the deal. The Encore to remember all encores. A very happy and appreciative audience. I must be a fervent Archie – why did I have goosebumps and nearly burst out in tears listening to this? 😥
Especially when there is David Archuleta’s Christmas music and David Archuleta’s Christmas concerts! 😀
It would not be an exaggeration to say that David’s Christmas shows with Nathan Pacheco turned out to be a tremendous success. Judging by this tweet, David too was “SO HAPPY” and Nathan gave him “Such A Big Hug that David nearly fell over”! (Edit: Trying to imagine Big Nathan bear-hugging and over-powering our Little David haha!! 😀 )
“DAVID ARCHULETA MADE PEOPLE HAPPY JUST BY ASSOCIATION!”
(Looove the tweet! So much truth in the observation!)
Much has been written about the Christmas Season through the decades and centuries. But Christmas is not just about the season. Or about parties and gifts. It is the feeling. The feeling from the spirit. The feeling from the heart. The feeling of connection with the true meaning of goodwill and love. The feeling of our hearts’ connection with Music.
Christmas is the season when David Archuleta shines. It is the season when more people open their hearts to take in his music.
“Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts.” – Janice Maeditere. David understood this. Did he not name his album CHRISTMAS FROM THE HEART♥ ? 😀
He opens his heart on so many levels:
SACRED
“Christmas celebrates the awesome and amazing fact that God is grander, wiser and more mysterious than we could have ever imagined.”
(Dan Schaeffer)
David has sung this Bach/Gounod version of Ave Maria many times. It is even more believable now. Such a beauty – in both skill and emotion! ♥
JOYOUS
“I heard the bells on Christmas Day, their old, familiar carols play, and wild and
sweet the words repeat of peace on earth, goodwill to men!”
[Henry Wadsworth Longfellow]
Little Drummer Boy at VIP Boise. Really enjoyed this uptempo version!
SMOOTH (like Butter!!) – The Christmas Song
Not forgetting the release of NUMB (which continues to gather viewers) and My Little Prayer (which has reached no.2 on Billboard’s Christian music, if I got it right). Everything adds on to the Wonderful-ness of David’s Christmas Season! 😀 YAY!!
And then there are the different levels of D-fan adoration and excitement –
I find JakeUpdegraff (@OnAirJake) (a diehard Archie) really amusing 😀
“Here’s a thread of how I just met my #1 celeb crush. My everything. The best. The nicest. The David Archuleta” “on route to king@davidarchie’s concert and I need distraction to contain my excitement ..”
And after the Christmas concert:
“And then he hugged me goodbye and exchanged merry christmases and I went on my way. MY HEART IS SHAKING AT THIS POINT. WHAT IS MY LIFE???”
And David himself too will never be the same again from now onwards. Besides the usual diehard Archies (who,we suspect, will hang around for another thousand years heh heh! moi aussi!) he seems to have collected a different kind of fans from the look of some pics taken before VIP Costa Mesa, California – another packed sold-out show. I believe he is on the way to being recognised as a musician who deserves to be celebrated. 2017 should augur well! 😀
Its been awhile since I listened to David’s music. Out of the blue just the other day, I was listening to Josh Groban’s “When you say you love me” and I remembered that David did a cover of this song during the American Idol tour back in 2008.
I did a quick search on youtube and I found this video of David’s “When you say you love me” during the tour’s opening night at Glendale, Arizona.
The memories came flooding back and I recalled the amazement I felt when I first listened to David’s version of this song. It’s just as glorious as it was back then. The maturity in his performance shone through loud and clear. The glory notes were strong and sustained and David truly made this song his own just like he does on so many other covers.
Then I remembered another cover that he did back in the days and this was a Spanish song called “Contigo En La Distancia” during an award show for Latin entertainers:
There he was singing with just a guitarist for accompaniment and he nailed that song with consummate ease that left the audience in awe. This was a David Archuleta at his vocal best and his stage presence was something to see as he prowled the stage while belting out the song with such power.
He had total technical grasp over his material and yet there was something magical added to the mix. An artistic flair that not many vocalist possess. Either you have it or you don’t. Another virtuoso performance during his American Idol days was this little beauty:
I miss this David. His subsequent teenybopper-ish music didn’t quite match up to this potential. I am waiting for the day that this David Arculeta reappears on the music scene.
