January 31, 2014 hails the celebration of another Lunar New Year – the Spring Festival.
According to lunar zodiac calculations, David is actually 24 years old – not 23! He was born 2 zodiacal cycles ago – each cycle consisting of 12 years represented by 12 animals who presented themselves to the Lord Buddha, or so legends and my grandmother have told me.
The Chinese concept is David reached the ripe old age of 1 year the moment he was born to this earth, having spent almost a year in … you know where. 😉 Various Chinese ancient traditions and beliefs have carried through for more than 4000 years of history – my thinking is there must be some form of wisdom there eh? 🙂
According to what I heard on a radio interview recently of the chief consultant of Soleil Trinity who has had many years’ training in Chinese metaphysics, 2014 is “The Year for Promotions for the Horse”, which means hard work and responsibility. “And if those Promotions do not present themselves, he should push and ask for them”. That sounds relevant to our Horse in question. 🙂
(If you want to read about David’s horoscopic character traits – both Horse and Capricorn – we have an article posted on January 1, 2013)
The blossoming of Spring … the Season for renewed hope … of cleaning and cleansing … of prayers of thanksgiving and remembrance of roots and ancestors … of ridding evil with deafening crashes of fire-crackers, holy scents of joss sticks and wishes of good omens … of decorating homes and decking ourselves with bright colours for a positive energy … of distributing money in red packets for more luck and more wealth … of filling our tummies with good, nutritious food of the auspicious kind … to ensure our never going without, and to always have all good things aplenty for the rest of the year.
There are multitudes of symbolisms attached to the Lunar New Year celebrations – and taboos too – to ensure a propitious and auspicious start to a new year. One very serious taboo is – never to wash your hair on the 1st day of the new year – you might just wash away all your good luck!!
The colour and vibrance of this annual celebration which Spring brings forth – together with all the godly festivals celebrated during this fortnight-long season, like Yan Yat (Everybody’s Birthday) … the Celebrations of the God of Wealth … the King Of Heaven … The Godess Of Mercy … Kwan Kung The God Of War And Justice … and even the ceremony of unmarried girls throwing mandarins into rivers to wish for a good marriage and the young men subsequently scrambling for those mandarins in the water … can better be expressed by us posting some pictures. May all the Archies celebrating the Lunar New Year have a Very Happy and Prosperous One!!!
GONG XI FA CAI ! !
And, most important of all, the Family Reunion Dinner – having similar sentiments with the western concept of Thanksgiving and many other such celebrations of reunions of various cultures of the world – where a family get-together is of vital importance to family connections and continuation of upholding traditions – on the Eve of the fortnight-long Festival.
I’m posting this very touching vid to show the significance of “eating together with family”. Especially during the New Year Season. 🙂
