April 11th 2009, it was like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas all rolled into one.
The weeks of anticipation, ODD-ing, spazzing, scrambling for showcase passes, endless emails and phone calls to djs, radio stations and any other channels just so that we could be sure of getting those precious passes for the showcase all boiled down to this one date when Archies ( estimates ranged from 3000 – 5000 strong ) that not only were from Malaysia but as far away as the Philippines and Indonesia thronged the Sunway Amphitheatre
The frenzy of course started with the pandemonium at the KLIA! I think Sony seriously underestimated the crowd that would show up let alone the passion and zeal that would be displayed. I remember the calm, nonchalant way in which David and his handlers were approaching the arrival lounge exit. It was almost as if they were taking a leisurely country stroll. Little did they know the explosion of fandom that awaited them!
And the crowd at Sunway was a sight to behold. Wall to wall of Archies waving banners and signs screaming at the top of their voices. I was so happy to witness the amount of support that David had and still do in Malaysia. I even spied quite a few ‘aunties’ among the crowd lol.
This is our humble request, dear Archies.
We hope that all of you that were there on that day in 2009 will once again converge on whichever venue that David’s upcoming concert will be held in and show him all the love and support that you can muster. Let’s make it a truly “ohmygoshashley” night 🙂

Touch My Hand (credit: ShellyFOD)
Playing to what he described as “the best scenery I’ve ever been in front of for a concert”, David Archuleta put on a top-notch performance at the Alaska State Fair on Friday night. (Pioneer Peak, part of the Chugach Mountain Range, rises over 6,000 feet just a few miles from Palmer, site of the fair).
He opened amid the screams of admiring fans with “Touch My Hand” and had the crowd in his hands the entire night. David talked between nearly every song, telling stories about the lyrics, who wrote them or what they meant to him. During one song that opened and closed with whistling, he asked the crowd to help him, saying, “as cold as it is, I’m not sure if I can whistle”. He did – and the crowd very willingly did, adding a great flavor to the song. (the temps during the concert were in the low 50s, with a crisp wind that made it feel colder).
He sang almost everything from his CD, including “A Little Too Not Over You”, “You Can”, “My Hands”, and “To Be With You” which he noted that was written by “one of this year’s Idol judges, Kara DioGuardi,” who he said sang back up on the CD (which I didn’t know). David also did a nice cover of Cobie Caillat’s “Bubbly” and a song he penned, “Works For Me”.
I was impressed that he noticed specific people in the audience. There were several fans that had visited a booth that does wild and crazy things to hair and he pointed out the girls in several sections with their weird “do’s”.
He closed the 90-minute concert with “Crush”, then came back to do two songs for his encore, “Apologize” and “Angels” what he said was his favorite song from his CD,
David said he was happy to see such a big crowd, saying that Alaska was the only state that he had never received fan mail from. I think that will change!!!
David In Nauvoo!
Our Stake had youth conference in Nauvoo, Illinois at the end of July. We were able to do many fantastic things and of course see the amazing pageant. We arrived on Thursday and our groups first assignment was to attend the Nauvoo temple. As we were entering the temple a friend of mine grabbed me and said David Archuletta is in the temple right now but don’t tell the kids. So I was obedient and didn’t tell the kids but I did tell the adults. It didn’t take long before all the kids knew as well because the temple president came in and told all the kids that David was in the temple. Although that was exciting – what we learned later from my same friend was that David would be at the pageant as well. So as the pageant began to start we all identified where he was at and then as the pageant ended we kind of watched to see what would happen. And what happened was all the little girls in the cast of the pageant came running after him. So my friend who is the young mens president said, “hey lets go-my wife loves David and I need to get her some pictures.” So I happily obliged. While he took pictures I just hung out and watched David graciously sign autographs. At one point the group of girls were so excited that they almost knocked him over and as you can see from the picture he isn’t all that big. But I must say that he was just like he was on TV. Always smiling, talking kindly to everyone and just laughing at all the chaos. It was a fun memory and it made me wonder how many times famous people are at events and we don’t even know they are there.

Anchorage High Schooler Wins Fair’s David Archuleta Pizza Party
It would be an understatement to say that Whitney Grigsby is excited to be selected as the winner of the Alaska State Fair’s David Archuleta Pizza Party prize package.
“You have no idea,” said Grigsby, a 17-year-old senior at South Anchorage High School. “It’s David Archuleta!”
As the winner, Grigsby will receive a pizza party, Fair admission and tickets to the David Archuleta concert for herself and seven of her friends and family members. The concert, which is presented by Alaska Airlines and is part of the AT&T Borealis Concert Series, takes place on Friday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fair’s Borealis Theatre.
Grigsby was selected as the winner in a random drawing held on August 24. Prior to that, more than 2,000 people entered the drawing by signing up to receive mobile or e-mail updates on the Fair Web site or in person at the Dimond Center and Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall.
“I thought I would enter and try to win, but I didn’t expect it. I never win anything, so I was really surprised,” said Grigsby, whose sister told her about the contest and encouraged her to sign up. Grigsby added that she is most excited to meet the singer in person.
Those who didn’t win the prize package still have the opportunity to purchase tickets to see Archuleta in concert at the Fair. Tickets are $45 general without Fair admission, and $55 general with Fair admission, and are available for purchase at alaskastatefair.org. Convenience fees apply. Reserved seating tickets are no longer available for this concert.
Since his second-place finish on American Idol, 18-year-old Archuleta signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, released his first album, and had three songs debut simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His self-titled debut featured his first single, “Crush,” as well as the popular tunes “Touch My Hand” and “A Little Too Not Over You.” He recently completed a tour of the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and joined Demi Lovato on her summer tour 2009.
Got to Alaska ABC.com for local news coverage of the concert.
I love this statement : “The big name concerts like the Beach Boys, Seether, and David Archuleta have already sold out.” 🙂
