We came together and we laughed, hugged, giggled, ate, gossiped and experienced all over again the heady moments of the cosmic concert, M&Gs, autograph sessions, press conference and sound check.
The minute we set down at Madam Kwan’s for our dinner, cameras and notebooks were whipped out in record time to exchange new photos and images that were captured at the various events prior to the concert.
We saw never before released video footage ( many of which were taken by super stealthy Archiekins who were afraid that their video recorders would be seized by the army of nasty security personnel 🙂 ). I must commend the videographers who took those videos for their super steady hands while presumably bobbing their heads and jiving away to David’s music. We exchanged photos and heard new stories about the concert that made it seem as if it happened only the day before. In particular was the story told by Lily about the Hilton Hotel escapade! How she was practically left driving the car with it’s doors all opened while all her passengers zoomed back to the hotel lobby the minute they spotted David lol.
And best of all we met new Archiekins Candace, Jason and Zach who joined us for our gathering.
After dinner we ended up at Starbucks where we continued our trip down memory lane until the wee hours of Sunday morning. Needless to say we had a blast! 😀 😀
And this is all due to a wonderful young man from Utah, United States who has weaved his magic over us all and brought us together. It’s ironic really to think that a person from foreign shores can be such a unifier whereas our local politicians are doing such a messy job of it.
David has hordes of adoring female fans the world over. No matter where he goes they swarm all over him like bees to honey. While the female component of his fan base is unmistakable and a force to be reckoned with, such is not the case with the boys. It seems rather uncool for any self-respecting, red-blooded male to admit to being a fan of David Archuleta. I get strange stares and snarky remarks when I tell my friends that I’m a fan of David’s. I might as well have horns on my head, scales on my back and a tail dangling between my legs for all the incredulity that is displayed when I mention his name.
I suppose it’s these sorts of reaction that, perhaps, forces male fans to go ‘underground’ and express their admiration for David in hushed tones and quiet corners. Finding these males are like the proverbial needle in a haystack; very rare and invariably restrained in their expressions.
Thus it was an extremely delightful moment to find out at the ticket launch that, in Malaysia at least, David has quite a few unabashedly and extremely supportive fans of the male variety. I give you people’s exhibit A:
These merry band of gentlemen turned up at Berjaya Times Square with heads held high and made a bee line for the ticket counter not in the least worried about being thought of as uncool in a sea of female fans.
Jonathan and Yoashio needs no introduction to those of us who know them. They are the original Archiekins and are among David’s biggest fans. They have bought all his CDs, made the requests to the radio stations and taken part in all David related events.
Han Yang, Eng Leong and the gentleman to the extreme right of the photo is rather new to us but nevertheless no less committed in their support of David than your every day female fan.
That leaves Sam for last but by no means least as I do have a soft spot for him because he looks remarkably like David ( well an Asian version perhaps ) in his Sunday best of a black suit & tie with white shirt. In fact he had just attended Sunday church and immediately made his way to the ticket launch. With a pronounced American accent he introduced himself to us declaring in a soft, shy voice that he was there to buy a ticket to David’s show.
Best of all he was the only male winner of the coveted Meet & Greet passes which he nearly missed out on as he had disappeared for a quick bite somewhere in the mall. So when his name was pulled out of the lucky draw box we frantically called him on the phone and it was a sight to behold with his black tie flapping in the air, he practically flew across the concourse to claim his prize.
No tribute to fans is complete without including the girls. They are truly the dynamos of the David Archuleta fan base engine. They come in all shapes and sizes but there’s no mistaking their brand of devotion. Maybe I’m biased because I’m a fan myself but it would seem to me that the passion that David’s female fans have for him is decidedly more heartfelt, more timeless and enduring. Such is the case for Irda.
Irda is possibly the most ardent and energetic of all David’s fans put together. The devotion that she has for David is truly a force of nature – and that’s putting it mildly! If all the passion that she feels for David can be converted into electrical energy, it would be able to light up the whole of Stadium Negara with a few kilowatts to spare. All those screaming girls that we often see on videos does not even come near to the ardor that Irda has for David. Irda, you are precious and all the kakaks, aunties and uncles at AAM love you! 🙂
But Irda and the rest of the girls are not your garden variety suicidal, hair-tearing, wailing type of fans because you sense in them an intelligence and stability brought in no small measure by strong parental support and devotion.
Ultimately, though, it is the collective force of the entire fan base in Malaysia that has made this moment possible for all of us. The hundreds of emails and thousands of phone calls has finally wore down Sony Malaysia’s resistance resulting in for us fans of David Archuleta a very special moment indeed.
A toast to all of you!
You astound, confound, bewilder and delight. Three parts man, two parts boy you’re like a riddle, a puzzle and an enigma all wrapped up in one glorious parcel with a bit of Rubik’s cube thrown in for good measure. You tweet about mountains, cats, neti pots and gold fish brains – what’s that about? You v-log from bathrooms and have helped us solve a universal mystery – brocolli or cauliflower. But the most wonderful truth about you is that even the sweetest sounding nightingale has nothing on you. You move us and touch that special place in our hearts with a beautiful, soulful sound that makes grown men and women weep tears of joy. Added to that is the wisdom, self-awareness and common sense that belie your tender age.

Lowe does 3rd tour with David Archuleta
Kendra Lowe just finished her third tour with David Archuleta, playing keyboard and violin. After performing with Archuleta in Alaska two weeks ago, she has now performed in all 50 states.
Lowe loved touring because she was able to meet so many wonderful people, and give back to the audience through music. Although touring isn’t her cup of tea, Lowe said, “The rewards have been so unexpectedly humbling and edifying with David.”
“David has taught me more than I can say. He has a beautiful light around him. He is so pure and so good,” Lowe said. “He has made me want to become a better person by watching his example.”
Not only did Lowe learn from Archuleta, but she also gained a greater testimony of God’s love for his children from her experience.
“The biggest thing I learned being on tour was how much Heavenly Father loves his children. David and I went to every temple we could in every city we performed in that had a temple. It made the biggest difference for us. I can’t explain it in words. Just knowing that we have been given so much and are not alone made every day worth living — especially the tough ones.”
Lowe said she feels the love of God every time she’s allowed to share her gifts.
“He has given me all that I have, so I want to give back,” Lowe said. “That’s enough for me to keep going.”
Touring with Archuleta wasn’t a completely new experience for Lowe — she has toured all over the U.S. for years with her family.
Lowe said, “I grew up being pulled out of school to go on the road. We performed all over the place, even Asia, Europe, Canada and other places. We moved to Branson in 2000, where we performed six days a week for nine months out of the year.”
Because Lowe has been on the road with Archuleta since February, she hasn’t had much time to record her own music. After many requests from fans and finally a little time off, Lowe plans to write, arrange and record another album this fall.
cant wait cant wait! What do you guys think he’ll sing? Spanish Crush *thuds all over the world*? Zero Gravity? Touch My Hand? HMM!
WHY, YES I WOULD.
Tell them you would too!
KSM Interview – Background David Music
Can you hear him? 😀
“She’s Absolutely in Love with David Archuleta”
Kayla Vittek of Rocklin is the face of myotonic muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease that affects muscles and organs in the body.
And on Sept. 6, she let almost 40 million viewers across the U.S. into the life of living with MMD through her family’s appearance on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Vittek, now 4 years old, was diagnosed with MMD at 46 days old. She was born two months early and was immediately placed into the care of doctors after her birth, hooked up to a ventilator, which she used until she was 9 months old.
“This is the face of this disease,” Lisa tells them.
But the way Lisa describes Kayla, she’s like many other children her age.
“She’s absolutely in love with David Archuleta,” Lisa said.
And here’s what Lisa, Kayla’s mom said at Snarkys:
I would do anything to make that dream come true for my sweet little Kayla. We recently took her to a David Archuleta concert at Arco Arena in Sacramento and she had a blast. She wakes up every morning and the first thing she signs is “David” by making the letter “D” on the side of her head. She dances around the house to his music on my iPod and if she gets tired of a particular song, she’ll sign and say “new song” and advance to the next David Archuleta song. It would make her life to meet him in person. I truly believe she’s David’s #1 fan. David, if you’re reading this, please make Kayla’s dream come true.
Aww. I really hope she gets to meet David someday. I have a feeling she will (:
