IN SEARCH OF DAVID
Dear oh dear! You guys definitely need salvaging from what’s left of you. You need to be saved and diverted from those harmful palpitations before you succumb to the fatalities of a David-Snippets-Attack – which, tut tut..does nothing really but leaves you with a heart half-satisfied and a desire unfulfilled.
So let me give you some distractions of the more earthly kind to last you for a week or two before the bombshell of the Album explodes in our midst. Devitalised now of energy and kaput of moolah in my failed search-mission of David, and after a few words of encouragement from our dear Uncle John, I am posting some pics and a couple of sob-stories.
“O David, David, wherefore art thou, David?”
I’ve looked for him everywhere I could. Swear. But he is nowhere in sight.
From soaking in the breathlessly beautiful landscapes of the Tuscan rolling hills – to frolicking amongst the ruins and ancient towns and villages of Arezzo, Talla, Siena, Pienza, Cortina etc. From trudging up the hilly forests of La Verna which lead up to the 12th Century monastery of San Francesco (St. Francis) – to searching through the amazing Renaissance artworks and treasures of Siena and Firenze – From munching my way through the yummy mountain village cafes – to waking every morning to the haunting chimes of church bells – There is so much to savour and explore, it will take a lifetime to cover.
All that done – and David is still nowhere in sight. My half-past six theory has proven to be one of whimsical fantasy and capricious eccentricity. David is truly NOT in Tuscany.
“You looking for David?” asks an Italian passerby in his heavily-accented English, and clad in a black robe with an enormous wooden cross across his chest, looking every inch an Elder…I mean…a Padre.
“Try Firenze” (Florence) he says.
So I plod to Firenze, the cradle of Renaissance.
Not only did I find David. I found 4 David’s – each looking more naked than the last.
The 1st one is at the Plazza Vecchio. Then I found David again high up at the Piazzale Michelangelo overlooking all the rooftops of Firenze. There is also a punkish David cheekily painted with bright pink skin and blonde hair outside the Medici’s Uffizi, where there were rows of sculptures of ancient Roman emperors – which particularly interested me because I can now put a face to these men (and women) with extreme power and often outrageous evil and madness as told to us in the study of Roman history.
But the true glory of Michelangelo’s divine creation of David, sculpted by the Great Master’s own fair hands, stands majestically high above our heads, in the middle of Tribuna of the Accademia. So magnificent a sight it was, and so touched was I by its beauty of sculpture that I forgot our David for 8 whole minutes!
Some of you may consider this historical David a “poor” substitute to our David. 🙂 But the hard truth is, both art critics and the world regard him as the embodiment of perfection in male beauty. (One must not mind the nudity – it’s all part of the art form)
However. Yeah you are right…I’m with you there…this guy can’t sing. What a pooh-pooh. 🙂
(Btw just want to sneak in this confession – I listened to the Snippets too – and am totally, irrevocably slayed! Uncle John must be made of steel 🙂 )
Some of the pics that I took while on my epic search for David 🙂
I know now I really should have planted my search mission in Chile….oh well…one can’t always win…will try to think more intelligently next trip…
It’s official folks. Here is the album cover for David’s new album BEGIN:
And here is the confirmed track list:
1 – Beautiful
2 – Somewhere Only We Know
3 – Everybody Hurts
4 – Don’t Give Up
5 – Angel
6 – Bridge Over Troubled Water
7 – Broken
8 – True Colors
9 – Pride (In The Name Of Love)
10 – Be Still My Soul
Truth be told, I’m really surprised at the track list as I thought it would comprise of more spiritual songs along the lines of Be Still My Soul, etc. But, I have to say I’m loving the selection and am really curious to see what he does with some of the songs cause they honestly are some of my favourites.
For those of you who are not familiar with the songs, a youtube user called cheche3d was kind enough to do a playlist of the songs listed. Do check it out HERE.
Hey all. I thought it was high time we did some spring cleaning here at AAM. Come September this year AAM will be 4 years old and I thought maybe we should go with a new look. I looked around the store of custom themes that WordPress supplies and settled on this one called ‘Chateau’. It’s major advantages are that it allows a lot more customizing. For example the banner is much larger for moi to post images and the huge pic of David that you see staring out at you is thanks to the background custom feature of this particular theme. So you can expect more of such jaw dropping photos to be posted on AAM in future. The color scheme can also be changed at will so that’s another plus.
The other theme that I experimented with was the so called ‘Chilean’ look that Amy really liked but that theme didn’t have enough of customizing features. It was a pretty straight forward and restricted theme so I decided to stick with the ‘Chateau’. Moreover a lot of the other custom themes were pretty much like the original one that AAM has used all this while. This current theme has enough of a difference to give AAM a fresh new look.
What do you guys think?
“I came, I saw, I conquered”
In three short, succinct statements Gaius Julius Caesar declared mastery over the Roman world, arguably the most powerful individual on Earth during his time. His terse but precise pronouncement of absolute authority over his subjects lives on till this day as an example of the special powers of the number 3.
Our civilization is filled with folklore of the numeral 3 and it’s magical character. Indeed from antiquity to the present time anything that comes in threes is deemed more complete and satisfying. The cosmos itself exists so beautiful yet mysterious all due to the influence of the number 3 and it’s geometric laws. All manner of human endeavors like mathematics, art, architecture, music, design etc has been rendered more pleasing and harmonious because of the number 3 and it’s various geometric forms. It is often said that good things not only come to those who wait but they also come in 3s and that the third time’s the charm.
Some examples: The holy trinity, faith-hope-love, “Three times a lady”, wine-women-song 😉 , body-mind-spirit, three cheers, the Genie always grants us 3 wishes……and the list goes on. Perhaps you dear readers can add to the list?
We’re nearly 3 years old. A fledgling by most reckoning even though much water (some of which were decidedly turbulent) has flowed under the bridge since our beginnings. 3 years ago when we began this journey little did we know the ups and downs, highs and lows that we would go through and the myriad of IT and social media skills that we would have to learn on the trot in order to be effective in the world of a David Archuleta fan club. The moment we thought we had conquered one mountain another loomed in the horizon. Looking back it’s amazing the number and diversity of hats that we have had to don to be up to scratch and the learning and skill acquiring process shows no signs of abating. Not to mention the terms and expressions that we, as fans, would be labeled with. It seemed like a whole linguistic universe sprung up overnight that was used to describe what it’s like to be a David Archuleta fan.
A couple more anniversaries have come and gone since that time and now we’re on the threshold of our 3rd. In many ways this adage of triple benefits apply to us too: David Archuleta-AAM-Friends; our holy trinity of sorts.
Appropriately this year as we celebrate the third anniversary of AAM’s founding, this axiom has proven it’s accuracy- it’s our red-letter day of anniversaries. Our idol came to town for a full concert – at long last – and gave us a couple of weeks of breathless anticipation and excitement culminating in the mother of all shows at Stadium Negara leaving us gobsmacked and flat as pancakes ( according to Trace 🙂 ). It’s the apex of our pyramid, the creme De la creme of our 3 years of existence as a David Archuleta fan community. The Genie really came through for us this year! And like the aftershocks of a powerful earthquake, the lingering effects of the law of thirds are still felt by all.
On this, our 3rd anniversary, we have thus far experienced a most wonderful year; David was up close and personal, we renewed our ties of friendship and last but definitely not least we inducted new caretakers into our fold.
Additionally it’s understood that the birthstone for the month of September – AAM’s ‘birth month’ is a sapphire. Sapphires are gemstones usually blue in color and gets a rating of 9 on the Mohs Scale of hardness whereas diamonds top the scale at 10. Apparently we are predestined to be enduring and long lasting 🙂 Isn’t that grand?
Happy anniversary AAM and AAM-ers :-)!
p/s: September also happens to be the month of Malaysia Day. September 16th to be exact – the REAL independence day 🙂
continued from part 2……….
After the concert ended, we decided to head to KL Hilton to see if we can get a chance to meet David. Followed John to the hotel. We reached the hotel around 11:30pm and as we were walking from the lift towards the lobby, we saw the band coming out from the van. Ohhh yeah good timing baby 😉 Then we quietly asked for a group pic with the band and they said okay 🙂
The band were really really friendly. Got to spend a little extra time with Mark and Steven as well. I asked Mark what is his favourite food so far and all I remembered he said something about fish hahahah. I asked him whether have he tried nasi lemak but he is not sure what is that and Shu Yee tried to explain it is like coconut rice but I don’t think he gets it. He said he eats whatever is in room service LOL! Mark is such a friendly person. He entertained every fan that approached him and talks to us like we are his friends or something and he was the last to go back to his room. So sweet right?? 😀
Didn’t really talk much to Mark but I just told him that he has to come back to Malaysia again and he said sure 🙂 Ahh, Mark has such beautiful blue eyes too <33
After the band head back to their rooms, all of us continued to hang around trying our luck to meet David.
We waited and waited until about 1am but there was still no sign of him 😦 We continued waiting and we were thinking maybe David left the stadium right after the concert ended or maybe he waited for everyone to go back first then only he leaves. We were just thinking about it and trying to map it all out and it was 1:15am by then. Suddenly we saw a white Alphard car at the hotel entrance. Then I said maybe it can be someone else because there’s other people having that car too! Then we were just looking and then the door opened and suddenly we saw Jeff came out from the car dsklfhkldsgkldhsklaghklasdg!!!
After David signed her book, I asked David whether we can have a group picture and he said sure. So I quickly gave my DSLR to this lady, (I have no idea who is she) and she said “Okay I’m only going to take one picture so you guys just get the picture from her okay. I promise this is going to be a nice one.” Then she took the picture and I asked her to take one more time just in case but someone else gave her their camera to take a pic. Then after we were done taking pics, I took my camera and checked back the photo…… THERE WAS NO PHOTO…… SHE DIDN’T TAKE THE PHOTO!!!! T.T I wanted to cry at that moment because that was my only personal group photo I had with David in my own camera but now its gone. By the time I looked up and wanted to tell the lady, she was already walking towards the lift to go up *sigh* I cant believe this just happened. But thank God, Naree said she took a photo of us phewwww.. but we weren’t looking at the camera 😦 Well, at least its still something, better than nothing right 🙂 Thank you so much Naree. You are my life saver!
After David went back to his room, Jeff stayed back to talk to the fans.
Jeff, as usual being chatty… We got to talked to him for a good 30 minutes. Jeff is really funny too talking about the puberty part and also teasing David 😛 Jeff also told us about how they didn’t know about the album sales in Malaysia and was surprised when David received that 6x platinum award. I remember Anne asked Jeff if David received the AAM shirt that they gave to him but Jeff wasn’t sure because I think David probably has too many shirts! Hahahah. Jeff said he wouldn’t really wear shirts with his name on it. He would probably give it to his sister to wear instead. Someone also suggested about a Christmas Tour in Malaysia and we also talked about David’s songs being played on the radio stations and other stuff that I don’t quite remember heheh 😛 We also managed to get a group photo with Jeff before we left.
We left the hotel around 2 something in the morning and Shu Yee fetched me home. Thanks Shu Yee! :DD
Overall, I will never forget that 2 days ever. It was such an awesome experience and so much great memories that I’ll never forget. I’m really going to miss all of this. About that photo thingy that happened, it really brought me down but now when I think back, I always tell myself to think about all the 101 other stuff that made me happy because it will always outdo the bad things. Always count your blessings and be thankful no matter what happens. Good things definitely comes to those who wait and dreams do come true! Getting to meet the David, Jeff and the band, getting to experience a full blown concert, I would never imagine myself getting to do all this! Really glad that I got to meet many new friends because of David too! Thank you AAM again for giving me a chance to meet David and also for always being there for the fans and taking time to help the fans out with everything. You guys are amazing. Thank you so much AAM! Till the next time when David comes back here again for another concert! 🙂
Okay so that is the end of my recap and I hope you guys enjoy reading it. Im really sorry guys if its really long ><
Continue from Part 1..
26th July 2011 – I went to school in the morning but half of the time I couldnt concentrate at all haha. Cheryl and I kept talking about the concert in class and we were really really excited! I couldnt believe “the day” has finally come. I’ve been talking about this since the day I found out David is coming here. Even those of my friends who doesnt know about David coming for a concert or even some of them who sadly dont even know David, they knew all about it from me because of the AAM contest that I took part in (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYnWgkDRXF0). So Im quite happy in a way that I got to spread some Archu love around while doing this video haha 😀 So, school ended at 1.10pm and the second we heard the bell rang, Cheryl and I quickly grabbed our bags and walked really fast back to my house. My house from school is about 5 minutes walk so it didnt take that long. When we reached home, we quickly had our lunch and showered and we left the house at 2.30pm to go to Kelana Jaya LRT Station. When we reached the station, John fetched us to Stadium Negara. Thank you John for the ride!!! 🙂 We reached Stadium Negara around 3.30pm and we just hang around there with the other fans. It was really hot on that day. I remember when David’s showcase in 2009.. it was raining but this time it was the opposite! When it was time for the soundcheck, I could hear David singing from outside! I was standing so close to the door because I wanted to get a clearer sound and also because of the air-cond 😛 Ahhhh hearing his voice was just so awesome. Its like you cant even tell if he is really singing or its from the CD. It is that good! The part when David sang Everything And More and in the middle of the song he used his lower register ohmygoshhhh!! <33333
Then after the soundcheck was M&G session woohoooo! I was in the 6th batch with AAM to meet David. There were 5 of us. When we went inside the room to meet david, the AAM batch before us were giving their gifts and giving their last words to David before they had to leave. When it was our turn, the Sony people asked us to take a group pic with David first. When I went to stand next to David, I said hi David and he said hey guys 🙂
I could tell he was really really tired but he just smile like everything is okay <333 I was pretty bummed because the M&G session only lasted for like less than a minute because there were still many batches to go and they had to rush due to limited time. If only the M&G session was after the concert. Anyways, after the Sony people took our group pictures, everyone had to quickly give their gifts to David. Everyone wanted to talk to him so I was waiting for my turn to talk to him and the guard beside me just had to put his arm infront of me and kept saying okay okay indirectly asking me to go and david was just right infront of me pfft -.-
After the M&G session we hang around for a little while and then headed to Times Square to have our quick dinner since we had about an hour to spare before the concert starts. We finished our dinner and quickly went to the toilet first. When we were heading towards the Monorail station, suddenly I heard Irda screamed my name “Marianne! I lost my ticket!” I turned around and saw Irda on the floor searching for the ticket in her bag and searching in every of her pockets. All of us quickly helped her to search for her ticket and Irda ran down the escalator heading to the food court to see if she left her ticket there. We were all freaking out when her ticket was no where to be found in her bag and we didnt know what to do. It was 7.40pm by then and the concert starts at 8pm! I called John and told him about it and he asked all of us to go back to the stadium and meet him at the Ticket Charge counter and maybe they can help us. Before I could call Irda, she called me and said she couldnt find it and she was crying. I told her to come back to us and go back to the stadium and the Ticket Charge people may be able to help her. When she came back and we were about to leave, we lost Cheryl -.- We were calling out her name loudly and walking around that area but we couldnt find her. I called her and her number could not be reached, great! We were just standing there clueless for about 2 minutes and suddenly we saw Cheryl running up the escalator and she said she went looking for Irda -.-
Okay so everyone was back together and we rushed to the LRT station and got our train tickets and headed back to the stadium. Irda was really upset and all of us tried to cheer her up and tell her not to worry because everything will be fine. When we reached the Ticket Charge counter, we saw John waiting for us 🙂 Then, the Ticket Charge lady tried to retrieve back all the information from the ticket launch because Irda bought her tickets through AAM. We waited for about 5 minutes and then the lady said “We are going to print a new ticket for you now, so tell her not to cry okay.” We were all relieved and so happy when we heard that but Irda was still a little upset after all she went through and I told Irda “Im sure you dont want David to see you like that right? Can you please smile for us? :D” And then she showed us her teeth and gave a smile and we cheered and clapped for her. Even the people we dont know was like woohooo although they dont know what was going on HAHAHAHAHH! 😛
After everything was settled, we were ready to get inside the stadium. When we had to get our bags checked before we entered, one of the Sony lady (I forgot whats her name) she said “hiiii!” and I said “hi, you remember me? O.o” Then she said of course because I think she seen me too many times at the ticket launch, auto session and on that day too haha. She was really nice and she asked to check my ticket and then say said “okayy, enjoy the concert!” then I said “thanks!” and guess what, she didnt even check my bag at all! Dang, I could have brought in my DSLR! lol. Anyways, when we got in, we were all feeling excited and pumped up for the concert! All of us went to take our seats and got settled.
While waiting for David to come out, I decided to ask James sitting next to me, “why not we all sing a song together?” Then she said “Okay! But it has to be a song that everyone knows” Then I said “Somethin bout love?” Then she said “Okay!” So we told our friends sitting near to us about it and they agreed to sing along the chorus. Then I said “Okay 1,2….3!” *Everyone start singing* “There’s somethin bout love that breaks your heart, whoa oh oh oh, that sets you free….” Then more and more people started singing along with us too. It was so fun! After that, I suggested Touch my hand and everyone sang along too. “Saw you from the distance, saw you from the stage, somethin bout the look in your eyes somethin bout your beautiful faceeeee…” Then half way singing, the band came out and everyone stopped singing because they were so excited and started cheering. We were all chanting “david, david, david!” and I could see Steven smiling haha.
Then the band started playing Stomping the roses and everyone was cheering and screaming….. and david came out!!!!!! Wooot I couldnt help but scream too heheh 😛 Ohmygosh the part David sang “carry me awayyyyy…. did you feel like STOMPINGG THE ROSESSS” ahhhhhhhh love the confidence and the energy when he walks and moves! <3333 Love dont hate was sooo good too! Sounded even better live!!! Love how David interact with his fans when he sang Elevator too. When he sang using his lower register again, wooooot so sexy! HAHAHAHAAHAH!
Everybody wants to rule the world was one of my personal faves. Love how he gives great and positive messages at the beginning and he said “If you have a dream, If you have a love for something then you should go for it!” He is amazinggg! Love how he keeps to his values too <333
Loved how he he said A thousand miles reminds him about his mom and he dedicated that song to her awwww :’)
Touch my hand was just awesome! My favourite song from his first album. Love it when he says “only me, only you and the band” and points to the band omggg and also when he stretch out his arms towards the fans ahhhhh ❤ So cool that he took the flower from the fan in the middle of the song too :DD
Stand by me was dsjklgdlshlg. The part when he sang “just as long, as you stand, stand by me” wooooot his hand movements and also when he sang “AND ALL YOU BEAUUUUUTIFUL GIRLS~” he really made the girls go crrraaazzzyyyy including me 😛 *hides at a corner*
When David hit those high notes singing Everything and more, really gives me tingles everywhere.. I dont think there’s anyone who can sing it like david with such passion and full of emotions. Really really beautiful!
Zero gravity was insane! It really hit me real hard. I couldnt stop jumping like my butt is on fire. Love the energy in this song!!! David couldnt stop jumping too and I’ve mentioned this before but I love his confidence when he does the walk.
And then comes the encore, when David said the next song he was gonna sing is by Bryan Adams called Heaven, I screamed and I was sooooo happy until tears just went rolling down my cheek. I was really hoping for David to sing this song. When I watched him sing that song in Manila, I was like okay thats it.. David has to sing that song when he comes here. I was telling my friends that I hope he sings it during the concert and I tweeted him on the concert day itself. I said “David pleaseee sing heaven at your concert tonight!” Hearing that song really touched me and I cant believe I cried. Cried because I just just overwhelmed with emotions. I was really in heaven indeed! DAVID I LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY DREAM COME TRUE!
I also made a banner about Heaven
Oh and before David sang crazy, so adorbs when he put his finger at his lips asking the crowd to keep quiet LOL.
The concert ended with Crush. Loved how after he sang the song, he went backstage and came back out again to thank the fans and he banged a little on the drums too!!! <333 THANK YOU DAVID!! 🙂
