The Constellation ORION as can be seen by the naked eye
Orion is a prominent constellation located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world. It is one of the most conspicuous and recognizable constellations in the night sky. It was named after Orion, a hunter in Greek mythology. Its brightest stars are Rigel (Beta Orionis) and Betelgeuse (Alpha Orionis), a blue-white and a red supergiant, respectively.
The name ORION had meant different things to different people in the world during ancient times.
In Greco-Roman mythology it was a supernaturally strong huntsman.
In Tolkien’s fictional mythology of middle earth, he described Orion as “a swordsman of the Sky”
Hungarian tradition had Orion as a magic archer.
Ancient Egypt regarded the stars in Orion as God.
In China, Orion was part of the 28 Mansions of their Constellation System.
The Bible mentioned Orion as many as 3 times.
Well, I’m not an inquisitive Archie for nothing. Anything to do with David Archie, I am inclined to poke my nose into it. When the news broke out about his Summer Tour which he named ORION, I clicked into Google, wanting to know what the word ORION denotes, eager to pry into David’s mind.
Guess what. At first I saw no similarity between Star Orion and Star David Archuleta.
But, if you read into it, boy oh boy, there is plenty to ponder about. 😉 😉
“Mythographers have seen the story of Orion as a way to access local folk tales and cultic practices. Zeus placed him among the stars within the Constellation”. Ahh .. surprise, surprise! This similarity jumps straight into mind! Cultic practices?? Hmm .. do the Archies count? Was Zeus – American Idol? Or was Zeus the loyal Archu-Fandom for placing David Archuleta amongst the Fan-Constellation? Does Archu-blogging count as a cultic practice? Is the daily ritual of following him also a cultic practice? Does tracking him from 1 concert to another also count? 😉
“In ancient Greece, Orion had a hero cult”. Oh wow! what more can I say?! Mr. Orion himself is in our midst!! The Hero Cult is US THE FANS !!! 😯 😯
“Orion was a huge man, in fact he was a giant.” David is not a giant even though his heart is ♥.
“Orion had plenty of hair on his face”. David’s face used to be silky as silk. Then a few bristles made a sexy appearance for awhile. We saw flashes of them now and again. Not sure whether they are still there. They have either grown into voluptious abundance. Or they have been brutally sheared off 😥 What I always say is: since he had mercilessly chopped off much of his glorious hair on the top of his head against all pleadings not to, he should really replace it somewhere else – the face would be most appropriate 😀 Balance, y’know? Could Orion Senior’s rugged looks have been an inspiration for Orion Junior’s attempted rugged looks? 😀
Did Orion sing? Guess not. Does David Archuleta sing? DOES HE!!! 😯
Orion held a sword (think it’s a sword). David Archuleta holds a mic .. and our hearts. ♥
As I said earlier, I’m just a little curious why David’s tour is named such. Despite his open smiles and cheerful demeanour, many of us have often suspected that David has a penchant for the mysterious, the enigmatic. He likes to delve deep. Dig into the trenches. Penetrate with intensity. Reveal the breathtaking.
But I believe that both Stars – either Orion amongst the Celestial Bodies in infinite space, or David Archie amongst Archu-earthlings here on Planet Earth – they both dazzle as brilliantly as the other. And will continue to glitter and shine for a long time.
Or perhaps David just likes the sound of the word. And why not? It does have a nice ring to it – kind of mystic .. mysterious .. unreachable .. sense of space .. reflectiveness .. afar-ness .. detachment yet closeness.
Perhaps that’s what the ORION Tour is about. I’m positive it will be a scintillating tour – much like the Constellation Orion lives in. ♥
