The Finale of AI is over and Trent Harmon has won its last and farewell season. We posted a vid of him (on Feb 8 – A Yardstick of Quality) talking about David being his inspiration and hoped that he would be able to sing like David. (something like that 🙂 )
I have my hidden reason (not hidden anymore now) for being happy that he won, not because I’m a huge fan of his voice but because he is a self-confessed fan of David’s. That is enough for me to lean with a certain amount of bias towards him. (A true “blue-blood” Archie has the prerogative to be biased, right?? Anyone who is an Archie-fan – I look upon him as an ally and friend 😉 )
I watched the Finale with great sentiment. It was of course entertaining to see all the AI alums, especially the older ones like Danny Gokey, Kelly Clarkson, singing and parading and making their presence felt on the AI stage. It has been ages since I tuned in to this show, the reason for which is obviously redundant! 😛
So why did I tune in to the Finale? David had already tweeted that he would not be singing. He did attend afterall when he had a last-minute change of schedule. But no, he won’t be singing, he says. (The perfectionist that he is, he probably wanted 2 months to rehearse, and there wasn’t time 😛 )
Again, I ask, why did I tune in? Simply because I was hoping . Hoping that some merciful angel would bring forth a last minute change of heart or plans either on the part of the organisers of AI or on the part of David himself. I hung on to every minute of the show hoping his name would be announced to sing something, or that his face would appear next to a mike.
Well, he did appear but only to walk in a parade at the Opening of the show. Wonderful support for AI, David! But you were not born to just walk in a parade, MUTE!
YOU WERE BORN TO STAND SOLO ON THE STAGE AND SING!!
I listened to some of the AI talents singing at the show, and I could not help having constant thoughts running through my mind: Hmm … they are not bad, I admit, but there is no one comparable to our David.
And that is not said out of bias. I swear. 🙂
Well, the official reason for his not being there to sing (as we had posted in the last thread) is : “that he was unavailable and then he called up 2 days ago that he would come for the opening”.
I’m sure there is some truth in that. But I also suspect that there is an element of “reluctance” on David’s part for whatever reason, which I am not willing to discuss at this point.
(But I’m willing to confess that I’m pretty good in speculating and grouching when I don’t get what I want. 😛 )
Anywaaaay … here is David Archuleta … the reluctant star … arriving at the AI Finale 🙂
