I left on an almost month-long break beholding a half-baked understanding of David’s intentions, trying to hang on to an obscure sense of well-being which was, in truth, concealing a sense of anxiety and restlessness as if it was a life – or, at least, an adventure – snuffed out.
I felt the futility of forming random opinions when all I wanted was some music from him.
However, amidst all negative feelings, the warmth of hope often has its absurd promises by positive thinking. I wanted so much to re-live the revelling of adrenaline – and still very much do – albeit carrying a bundle of nerves when I switched on my computer on coming home.
Lo and Behold – I hear: When The Son Of Man Comes Again
And I hear: Glorious
And, Man! Was I Happy!!
“Glorious” is plainly inspirational even though it is from a film about the Mormons and “The Son Of Man” is religious. This aspect of the songs having religious connotations, seems to disturb to no end part of the fandom together with some who had pooh-pooh’ed it.
But, I ask you, loud and clear: What does it matter?
-It is MUSIC from David that we want.
-It is the magic of his VOICE that we want.
In my opinion, we got both in both the songs. Especially Glorious which I love, sung with such loving conviction and positivity and within a few days the vid has already almost 350,000 views.
There is no barrier of cult or culture to great music
There is no obstacle by language or race.
For those fans who are not happy with the inclination towards religion with his 2 songs, is it closer to a confession that the 2 songs did not come with the edge these fans were hoping for? For this aspect, I can only surmise that the time is yet to come. We will have to wait for David’s own music next year of which he mentioned that he is working on.
My vacation took me one evening to a most touching dinner recital of a string quartet attended by about 150 music lovers of Dvorak in an Italian villa nestled in the forests of the Appenines. Drowning in its resonance, never for a moment did I doubt that that resonance did not belong to David too; that he will once again take us back to the place where the spirit of God’s special people, like Dvorak or Bach, reside.
I could almost hear David’s voice within the strains of the strings of these instruments that evening
That is how hauntingly touching I think David’s voice is –
Yes, I am still here alright. Why leave when he has made this place into one of the most beautiful on earth?
