Year 2008.
We all know how crazy this year has been. What a wild ride we had..and not just us, more so for the person we all admire and cherish so dearly, Mr. David Archuleta.
This year has just been..wow. The auditions..the weekly AI rounds..the Grand Finale..the tour..the 1st single..the album..I mean, seriously. How did we survive going through ALL THAT with all the spazzing and thudding and what not?!
So, what I want to ask you guys is..
What was one of the (many) defining moments in your life this year as an archangel? When did you first turned your eyes upon a guy called David whom you didn’t know yet at that moment, how much he would change your life upside down? At the auditions? On youtube? What was his first performance that made you speechless, took your breath away and said, “He’s the one.” ? The moment you knew that the rest of your year and life ain’t going to be the same anymore? The first symptoms of your ODD?
If there was One Favourite Moment (as impossible as it may be to choose) this year that you had to choose regarding David, what would it be?
For me personally, it would be the time I saw him singing “Imagine” in the Top 20.
I saw him in auditions,he caught my attention. I was interested but not 100% invested yet..It was just “he has a really good voice!” thing.
Heaven was like..the preparation before the Big Bang. The moment I heard Imagine..that was the Big Bang.I was..gone. That was my first spazzing and thudding moment ever. Oh the memories lol. And needless to say, there was no turning back after that. I caught the ODD bug for good. And as we all know, when it comes to ODD.. the longer you have it, the ‘worse’ it gets.
Another (i know i said one moment but.. :P) Great Moment of the year was the:
Z100 Premiere of Crush.
I was blessed to be able to listen to the premiere live and what a moment it was. I was bursting with pride, beaming with joy, shaking all over with excitement..I can only imagine what it must have been like for him. It was the start of something new. The end of AI and the start of David’s career. His own song, from his own album. I’ll never forget that moment.
And another moment (Sorry!I can’t resist!) for me as a fan was the creation of this site, Archuleta Avenue Malaysia. When it was first started, we had no idea how far it would go, how well it would do, how many fans are there in Malaysia who’ll support him all the way. But here we are, and I’m so thankful for you guys. Each and everyone of you – authors, posters, lurkers..lol. Thank you so much for all the love and support you have given to David through this site. I’m so glad I’ve gotten to know you guys. This year has been a roller coaster ride of emotions. Many a times, I have felt discouraged by things that have come my way but thank God for this guy called David who many a times have brought a smile to my face in those dark days and of course, you folks here too. (:
and of course, how can I not include THIS right? (:

Archuleta Avenue Malaysia 
I remembered watching the American Idol 7 audition from the beginning because it so happens my mum was was watching it. The start of the audition were pretty boring… Until… I saw DAVID! he started singing WOTWTC and i thought to myself ‘omg! this guy have a great voice and i told my mum and she’s on the same track as me. Lol
Since then i followed his progress and he sang heaven. It was the best performance and his voice was rich and angelic. However, for me the most defining moment would be when he sang imagine. I totally felt what he was singing and I think that’s the performance that got everyone talking and shook the scene of American Idol.
The first sign of serious ODD came after imagine. I would spend countless hour over the net waiting for any news on David and kept checking youtube for the latest performance because I was in Australia at that time. Then I started downloading all his AI songs and playing it over and over again 24/7. Soon I started saying things like.. ‘ dang it, Omgosh. lol. At times i would be so engrossed in satisfying my ODD that I even forgot what time it was and because of that i am sleep deprived! haha! I remember searching for magazines for pictures or news of him. lol
The most memorable moment of the year would be when crush was first aired on the radio. It was wonderful to see that david’s career has really taken off and his reaction when crush premiered on z100 was priceless. Here we can see a humble guy genuinely happy that he’s living his dream.
My mum saw the advert for American Idol 8 and asked me whether I would be watching. I told her that, I have found My idol and I would most probably watch AI 8 out of curiosity. haha!!
Anne, I am so thankful that I can be part of this amazing experience of creating a weblog with you. Thanks for letting me take part! I am so blessed to get to know such wonderful people at AAM š and how can I forget the 0.17 sec video that got all of us spazzing. It is such a wonderful gift. You’re right, this is just the beginning, we can expect great things to come. Bring on 2009!!!! š
Well, I remember thinking that David was pretty good when I heard him sing WOTWTC…and then in Hollywood Week, he sang Heaven…and then BAM!! I knew there was something special about this kid…well he’s not a kid anymore now, that’s for sure…he’s grown so, so much since the competition into such a mature, young man…And when he sang Imagine, wow…it just blew me away…he has such an angelic voice! Before he sang Imagine, I’d hoped he would do a decent version of it, but wow it exceeded my expectations…I told everyone I knew to watch his version of Imagine. He’s clearly set the bar sky high for future Idol hopefuls who wish to attempt this song, and IMO, none of them will even come close to what David has achieved. And from then on, I started searching YouTube for his songs and stuff…
That was when the ODD started…haha. It’s been such an amazing and whirlwind experience we witnessed after his Idol journey, and there’s so much more to come from this young man…he never fails to blow us away again and again…whether it’s his voice or humble and adorkable (lol) personality ^_^
I remember when I first saw him on AI – it was the auditions, and then the Hollywood results round (I missed Hollywood rounds as I was in Bali). Yes I noticed him and that he has a great voice, but I was not too invested yet – simply because I’ve watched AI since Season 3 and I know for a fact that many teenagers (especially male) fail to advance on AI once they enter Top 24 lol!
Then he got me more interested on Top24 week as I was really taken by his shy and dorky banter haha! I remember thinking Jason was the best that nite with David a close 2nd lol!
Then came Top20 week. I remember missing the first few performances, and when I sat down to watch – wondering if that shy boy with an amazing voice had come on yet – Ryan announced he would be coming up soon. I thought – good – at least I won’t miss one of the highlighted ones. Then – BAM – I was having chills and in tears – I couldn’t believe it – and I flashbacked to Fantasia’s Summertime and Melinda’s My Funny Valentine… but just that this was so much more intense for me!
The next morning I found myself searching for more info on the net and has never stopped haha! I lurked at Rickeys, checked Sirlinksalot.net, then Idolforums and FB, started gg on chats and discovering livestreaming/blogging, even registering for Gizmo to vote lol! I even woke up at 4.30am every Wed morning to check his song choice fm mj’s spoilers haha! I thought I may have just lost my mind until I realise there were lots of ppl my age with ODD haha!
It has been a journey wrought with much happiness, excitement, sometimes angst and nervous tensions since… but I have to say that after witnessing the rounds of Jingle gigs, I felt a profound sense of pride and joy for David – he is now a bonafide star! And the journey has only just begun right?
On another note, pls everyone make an effort to call Fly and request for ALTNOY. We all request via the website alot but they can’t really refuse a call in. The spin on MHM on Christmas day was the result of ‘ahem’ someone’s call in request haha – we may have sacrificed Crush there as I believe they replaced Crush with ALTNOY for that particular spin – but it’s a start. Only when more ppl besides the fans hear it and start requesting – can it then move up the MWC! And help promote the album!!!
Oh and do you all have the urge to buy the album again everytime you see it on the shelf in some record shop? LOL!

One of the most precious and memorable people I’ve come to know through David and AAM is Elicia š
Her dedication and persistence with Fly requests and promotion AMAZES me!! She is very thick-skinned for David and takes every opportunity to promote David – and that’s a good thing, lol. And that’s why ALTNOY was unfashionably spinned on normal airtime. š
We can’t ever forget the delicious, mouth-watering “forbidden looking” ArchuCupcakes, cant we?
I was never a big fan of David until after Idol, strangely enough, during the show I just thought he was cute and he was an okay singer to be honest.. but after I got his album and watching his performances I have come to realize that he is a fantastic singer and such a sweetheart..
It was the first Idol that I really got into and I was almost in tears when David didn’t win.. After joining AAM and meeting all of you, I realized that his fans are one of a kind, just like him..
The performaces that completely took my breath away would be the acapella Christmas songs he sang. That’s when I really knew that he wasn’t just another singer.. He’s more than that.. His personality alway shines through..
My favourite Idol performace, as hard as it is to choose would be Stand By Me.. cause I’ve alwayes loved that song..

Buuut I will, later not now as I have to dig into my memory banks for all the special moments and highlight the ones that really stand out.
Oh and I agree with Kylie that Elicia is officially the Managing Director of Promotions in AAM for David. Your cupcakes and constant “harrassment” haha of the djs really made the Archies day š You almost single handedly make them take notice of David.
I say almost because I think Ai Sim should be Assistant Managing Director as I recall she also constantly sent tidbits and updates to the djs at Flyfm which got the ball rolling in the first place. So all hail to Ai Sim š

Lol Lol you guys made me cry! Thank you thank you for the kudos haha but my vote goes to Ai Sim – she’s super fast and super excited for everything David! Trust her to keep you updated with links, scans etc. I miss her smses now that she’s on holiday haha!

You know, I have rooted for other contestants on previous AI seasons – though never to this extent (not even near) – and it is always a nerve wracking and anxiety-filled journey during AI – and that sinking feeling you get when they got voted off!
So, I’m so so very elated for David because he has really cut loose from AI and has displayed the star quality to cut it out on his own now – thanks largely to Crush, and that amazing ability to grow and mature into his new stature with so much ease and speed – which has much to do with his youth and attitude.
If you look back now at how far both Davids have come – I have to say one is still dwelling on the goodwill of AI, while the other has already long jumped off the AI bandwagon and sprinted off! That’s my observation… what do you guys think?

I feel David has to reestablish and prove himself in the wider world of music fans out there far removed from AI and that’s a good thing for him. It will help him to create a fanbase that’s even bigger and more loyal than the one he has established through AI. Let’s face it when the next season of AI rolls around, many of these fans will latch onto another favourite and David will be a fleeting interest. So the more often he gets to tour and promote away from AI influence the better it is for his long term career.
What a year indeed!
The defining moment and also the beginning of my ODD – A Thousand Miles on the Youtube which was my first contact with anything David or AI7.
I am an AI watcher since S3. I missed the week Astro aired his audition episode so when I logged on the internet to catch up, ATM was the first video I watched of David. Loved his voice. Loved his piano playing. Loved his stylings of ATM. Loved the song – one of my favorites. Since then searched and devoured anything David.
The rest is history. I still can’t believe the extent of my ODD and where it brought me to. It was far worse than my OCD.
Has it really been a year? So many things happened and achieved yet there are more to be done. Let’s collectively make 2009, the fruit-bearing year for David Archuleta.
Been watching AI ever since it premiered on Malaysian cable TV. Thus, I didn’t really give in to the ‘lethal’ disease we now regard as ‘ODD’ until I visited NotingDavid and FanBlast back in May. There was no denying the fact that David has a voice that is second to none. But once I began to discover what a good soul he possesses even when he wasn’t in front of the camera, the deal was sealed completely shut. He was going to have my support from here on out.
I can’t remember the exact moment I relented and decided to let David ‘connect’ with me as an audience through his singing. I suppose it was just an ordinary day when the epiphany hit; subtle but indelible.
As much as I enjoyed watching his performances during the tour, I equally relished watching videos of him interacting with fans. I kept waiting for him to do something ‘celebrity-like’…but that moment never came, not until today. He was just David; the same in front of 1 million people and in front of two strangers badgering for his autograph. I really don’t know how he does it…but he’s doing it. And I can only be so thankful to be able to soak in the mirth he naturally induces in fans.
And now I am only getting to the AAM community. Sheesh…I am long-winded. Sorry. š AAM…where do I even begin??? You guys knew what my initial plan was two centuries ago and boy am I glad I thwarted that plan! Thank you for accepting me and recruiting me. I can never thank you folks enough for reeling me in this incredible journey. Such a pleasure to have come to know you all via AAM. AAM is no longer a baby…it is growing and so is David! (Sorry…bad metaphor.)

I just want to say that you guys at AAM are an awesome bunch and David is lucky to have all of you backing him all the time.
Today , i was at speedy video at One Utama and I discovered that they actually give out poster with every cd purchased. So ,when I bot another cd to get my copy i asked the sales assistant how is the sales doing for david’s cd.The very enthusiastic sales person(prob and archie herself,haha) said that sales is doing very well.
The shop had ordered 400 cds recently and sold it all in just one day in the runup to christmas.she even said that most people buy an avg of 3 cds each.Maybe i heard wrongly and she meant 400 in one week.But even if they sold 400 cds in one week , it is still excellent.
I think AAM has contributed tons to promoting David in Malaysia and the sale of cds is a very good indicator of that. So guys, WELL DONE!!

David cds John.I asked specifically about sale of david cds and the salesperson distinctly said 400 .
The salesperson also mentioned the store had ordered 500 David Cook cds but sales were slow like 1 cd per week.
Being a fan of David Archuleta has brought me so very many special moments not least of which is my involvement with AAM but more on this later. The special moments for me are:
American Idol Show
My first moment was listening to David deliver that memorable rendition of “Heaven” and the interview that he gave before he went out to sing the song. There he was this fresh faced rather scruffy looking young boy singing with so much soul and feeling, my interest was definitely piqued.
The next song was “Shop Around” and I thought “Hhhmm….he can certainly belt out a song this one and so young too.” THEN came “Imagine” and I was a goner. “Imagine” has been covered endlessly by countless singers and I was never much impressed with the song even when Lennon sang it. But with the first strums of the accompanying guitar and the very first note that David sang, I was spellbound. There was so much tenderness and sensitivity in his delivery of the song that for the first time I understood the intention of Lennon in writing the song and I could appreciate the message behind it. It was one of the very rare occasions that I agreed with Simon that David did an absolutely fantastic job in covering the song. That performance sealed the deal for me and I have been a fan ever since.
American Idol Finale
This was a special moment for a lot of wrong reasons and some right ones. David accounted for himself very well that night. He poured out his heart and soul and laid bare his very essence and he has every right to be proud of what he achieved that night and the song that he chose to sing – “In This Moment” – was very apt. Of course the outcome was disappointing and I was frankly stunned upon catching the news that the other David had won.
American Idol Tour
There are many moments here for me but a couple stand out. First was when the tour opened in Glendale, Arizona. I remember hearing for the first time WYSYLM as sung by David. Before this there was a lot of doubt about David singing this song as fans were worried that he would be seen as another Groban copy but boy were they wrong! I sat at my old computer listening to his performance and I felt my throat constrict, had difficulty breathing, my tears welled in my eyes and I just listened to that rendition over and over again. David totally blew me away again. The next moment was at the final stop in Tulsa, Oklahoma when he gave that stellar performance of “Angels” It was as if he saved all his energy and intensity for that last hurrah and all of Archieland was collectively left shaking their heads over that performance. David outdid even himself on that occasion. Then we read the news of him officially signed to Jive records and we heaved a sigh of relief knowing that his music career was on sound footing.
Crush single and video
Who would not remember that moment when he introduced Crush to the world through Z100? We all saw the memorable video of him being so taken by hearing his own voice through the headphones singing Crush and we all rejoiced with him on that special day. Then the video was released and it shot to the top of the video charts in no time at all. Of course the video itself was put through endless repeat together with the song.
The Album release
Wow what can I say? This was a super duper special moment for ALL of us and we were given all sorts of teasers about the songs themselves and the release date especially here in Asia. Fans were given special snippets of the songs and we analysed them to death about which were our particular favourites. Then the message tribute organised by Sony specially for Malaysian fans which led to THAT amazing 17 seconds of David giving us all a special shoutout. I’ll always have that moment when I first saw the email with its precious attachment forever ingrained into my memory. The icing on the cake would be when I first held the cd in my hand. I was almost afraid to tear open the plastic wrapping for fear that I would somehow spoil the cd. What a dork! haha Of course since then the cd has been almost worn thin with the endless spins.
AAM
This is a category of special moments all on its own. Thank you Anne for first inviting me to be a part of this site. I first came to know Anne through IDF when she started the Msia / Spore Fans of David thread at IDF which subsequently led her and Lily to start AAM chiefly for Malaysian Archies but which of course all fans from everywhere are welcomed. Thank you guys for letting me be a part of this wonderful adventure and I treasure all of you.
2008 has been a year of many firsts for me chiefly because of the phenomenon that is David Archuleta. For the first time in my life I was truly fascinated about a singer and was emotionally and intellectually invested. I didn’t start going online to research David until after the finale. I just had to know more about this young man with the golden voice and the American Idol site was my very first introduction to the world of being a fan of David. From this site I frequented and participated in other sites like FB, NotingDavid, FOD, IDF, TWOP,CDC, youtubes etc.
And the journey continues.

oh wow. I dont even know where to start. I LOVE reading all of your stories, each and every one. The store had david’s poster on the wall.Thats how I got lured in .First I thot it was only for the shop until the girl said u get free when u buy cd.I was like dang it!! I bot a few copies already from Rock Corner..they never gave us no poster.Ok nvm, give me another cd.i want the poster.
I just bought the album from 1U today and along with it was the BEE-YOO-TI-FUL poster!!! š The Speedy guy told me there were only 4 posters left when I asked. He was grinning the whole time when he told me that. I wonder why… Haha. Thanks for the info, Kim!

speedy girl said the posters came from sony bmg, so all outlets should have them.although rock corner didnt hv on the first day of cd release when i bot them.i remember badgering rock corner girl for posters becos i had seen the singapore archies holding posters in their video.but rc girl said dont have . i am not sure by now .maybe the posters came later.
i was very dissapointed with 1U tower records promo of david’s album. there was no display in clear sight .not on the current release shelf even.never put up posters.no wonder got many left. must go and complain!
I bot 3 copies from rc but prior to that i had order 2 from amazon cos i didnt know when the cds will be on sale .since most cds come like at least 2 weeks after US release , I couldn’t risk not getting them soonest possible. it was after ordering that i found out abt the AAM + sony tie up-dang!
I asked 5 different Speedy outlets before this if they would give me a poster if I were to purchase the album and all gave me a disappointing ‘NO’ for an answer. So I was quite surprised when you mentioned 1U was. Maybe I should go ask other Speedy outlets now! š Have been waiting to buy another album for the sake of the poster. Haha. Interesting fact: Victoria Music Station sells the album for 30 bucks.

Having read all the wonderful reviews above, I cannot not add mine too. This year ,2008 is coming to an end in 3 days. Since I am over the other side of the Pacific ocean, it is 6.55 pm, December 28. I still have sometime to recollect my thoughts and memories about this special teeanger then, but a gorgeous young man today, whom I have come to love and cherish so much.
To make it short here, I have been working with children and teenagers for more than a decade. I have met many, many teenagers, but this one is different.
If you remember, there was another teeanger, a 16year old, Josiah, who was also competing at the same time. I first saw both, David and Josiah performed, before David sang Heaven. I was really impressed with Josiah in the beginning, but when David appreared I kind of prefer David.
I was waiting to see who would be eliminated first.
I missed a couple of weeks, and the week I tuned on, was the week when Josiah threw his hisssy fit, he was so stressed out that he cried and refused AI band to accopmany his performance. Of course, he was reprimanded and eliminated. I did not see David that week, I thought he was long gone. But I missed his performance.
A week or so, I saw David sang Heaven, I was so pleased to see him around. I discovered he has a great attitude. I still wasn’t so impressed, I thought MJ and Carly would be the forerunners.
I changed my mind, after he sang “Shop Around”.
He got better and better, and I started voting for him weekly but I wasn’t able to watch whenever the results were announced until the finals. Simply because I had meetings on Wednesday evenings, moreover I was so sure he would be around. But for the finals, I took off from the meeting to watch the last final round. As I had mentioned in my previous review on,”Meeting David”, I was so lost after the AI competition.
In the past, I didn’t care to know about any artists, not even a few whom I like. But I find myself, longing to know or to hear about him. I started logging onto the internet, this is not a norm to me, because I careless about surfing the network. I found Fanblast,NotingDavid, etc… just imagine, how elated I was.
Then I wondered if any Malaysians have heard of this wonderful rising star. I was excited when I read some Malaysians posting in those sites, of course, I have read a few comments by our famous John Chang.
I was wondering, if any Malaysians will start a fansite. So I kept looking and one day, I clicked on the Fansite,,,,International fansite, that’s when I found AAM. And here I am, logging on almost daily.
I am not finished with my review yet. Thank you all you, AAM angels for bringing us together.
I have no doubt David will rise above all those doubts, unkind remarks, malicious slanders, simply because he is gracious and magnanimous!
What a great role model for the younger generations!
God bless you dear precious David. Remember where you were before all this. Stay true to yourself and be yourself no matter what!

Yeah those days at fanblast brings back memories. I remember having to put out many fires of doubt concerning David. But most times there was incredible feeling of group energy and postive vibes from fans as we rejoiced together over the ‘exploits’ of young David.
Yes! I agreee, but fansite has too many fans, sometimes, you get ignored/overlooked.
I remember there is a Malaysian, named ,”purpley”, I don’t think I have seen this person logging on here.
I seldom comment over at Fansite, too many comments. I do miss a “Daisyc..”, she is good and she lives in Utah too. I think she logs on to NotingDavid now.

Alright, finally I’ve the time to comment on this one.
At the beginning of the year, I proudly told everyone that I was giving up on American Idol this season after a relatively disappointing season last year. I’ve been watching AI since season 3, but last season was really kinda BLEH. I did watch 2 episodes of the auditions, of course David was in one of the episodes I watched. My family and I were really impressed.
I don’t remember watching Hollywood week, however I think I did happen to see David receiving comments from the judges for Heaven. Remember the episode where they announced the top 24? It was Chinese New Year’s eve and many of us were watching that episode, including me. Everyone around me was going “I hope that 16 year old will get in….” “I like that 16 year old, whats his name?” “I LIKE HIM TOO!”. Everyone just knew him. When the judges announced that David was through, everyone was really happy. I was too, I knew he was good, but I wasn’t that happy because I didn’t know how good he was at that time.
Top 24 was Shop Around and Top 20 was the time David sang Imagine. I still did not bother watching AI. DANG! But after Imagine, there was just too much buzz about David Archuleta, that I decided to watch the Top 16. Since then, I watched every episode of American Idol 7. However, I was not like a fan-girl yet, more like those who goes “David Archuleta is good, he should win!”. I can’t remember exactly when I started google-ing and youtube-ing David, but I’ve never turned back since. I watched the Heaven and Imagine videos real late on youtube, and I was kind of kicking myself for not realizing this amazing talent earlier. Reading his interviews and watching his videos truly inspired me a lot.
Let’s not forget about Archuleta Avenue Malaysia. All of you here are really nice and amazing people as well! I’m really proud that David has got supporters like you all. You all made 2008(Archu-Year) even more memorable. Anne, Kylie, Lily, Justine and John, thank you for the constant updates š Everyone else at AAM, all of you rock the Archu-World! By the way, you guys probably never knew it, but I did learn a lot from you guys through reading your comments.
All these would never have happened without David Archuleta! Thank you for making 2008 a year I’d never forget!

hey guys, haha i’m a bit slow, sorry sorry! exams next week! š¦ anyway, my ODD started when David sang imagine, that was when i really noticed him. Before he sang, i was like “who is this boy?” and when he sang, i teared. haha its kinda funny, cause i was watching it in the tv room in my university, and there were people around me! lol. but after that performance, I HAD to spread the news about David Archuleta to all of my friends, and have been trying to archufy them! lol
