Lately I’ve been really enchanted by the Black Eyed Peas‘ latest party anthem I Gotta Feeling. It’s quite a departure from the techno/r&b sound of their first single. With it’s catchy, essentially pop beats crafted by club hit-maker David Guetta’s production and sound engineering skills, the Peas has another winner. The song is very mainstream for a hip/hop outfit and has a huge feel-good vibe to it giving the Peas another facet to their sound thus keeping the group in the fore front of the musical landscape. Using a simple message “Let’s party!” it’ll doubtless be THE signature tune of the Summer season.

When I first heard the song, not knowing that it was from the Black Eyed Peas, I immediately had a thought, “Hm.. wouldn’t it be great if David came up with such a song?”

In my mind’s eye I could see him executing a variety of hurly, whirly dance steps on the stage while his band pounded out the song. What a great opening number it would be for his own headlining tour. “I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good, good night!” I smiled at the scene running through my brain just like the countless times the same silly smile would appear whenever one of David’s songs came on. My feet would start tapping and my head would bop along with the song all the while having a real rush. Endlessly I would switch between stations hoping for a Crush, Touch My Hand or Zero Gravity but alas, more often than not, I am bombarded by a stream of dull, banal and largely uninspiring fare. Most have left me bewildered, searching for any musical merits in a veritable desert. I confess that I Gotta Feeling is the first non David Archuleta song in the last 18 months that I’ve downloaded and looks to be the only one for the foreseeable future. I believe I may have been ‘brainwashed’ by David’s singing to the point where no one else seems worthy and I wish the radio was like Astro with over a hundred stations each playing an assortment of David’s music.

It’ll take a lifetime to expound on the exact reasons why I get such a natural high from listening to David. The most cogent one I can come up with is that his voice simply agrees with me. Physics students of harmonics and frequency would tell you that this is probably resonance – when one object vibrating at the same natural frequency of a second object forces that second object into the same vibrational mode. Put simply, everything, be it animate or inanimate, vibrates with an innate frequency and when it contacts another object vibrating at the same natural frequency, then both are vibrating in harmony. It is this same phenomena that happens when the cadence of a huge crowd jumping up and down at a rock concert exactly matches the natural frequency of the concrete terraces causing them to shake ominously and in danger of collapsing.

However on the flip side, and delightfully so, such symmetry can also bring about a happy flood of endorphins which our resident food scientist would explain is the body’s hormones producing a natural feel-good moment. A kind of drug if you will but one that is brought about the natural way through exercise, being in the company of loved ones or listening to a good song. In the latter situation David’s voice washes over me, through me and the endorphins are at a feverish pitch – our frequencies are in sync. For a few minutes at least I’m transported and all is right with the universe, the planets are aligned:

And I get lost in the clouds

It’s zero gravity

I gotta feeling and it’s a preeetty good one. Unfortunately the rush remains for only a bit until the next inane song comes on and I crash to Earth with a thud!

Update on petition:

Dear AAMers,

I know many of you are excited about the possibility of David Archuleta staging a concert in Malaysia and are all out to support the petition. I appreciate your heartfelt sentiments and your efforts very much and I encourage as many of you as possible to sign the petition BUT please do not spam! I will not hesitate to delete ALL spam from the petition as I’m very ruthless in protecting it’s integrity. I wish for this to be a genuine and honest attempt on our part to impress upon David and his management that Malaysian fans are truly behind this project in the most sincere manner.

So please be guided accordingly.

New David Blog

Short and sweet blog from rambling David, lol

Hi there! I’m going to try and keep this short and sweet! Think I can pull it off? I’m in Connecticut, and we’re here for tour rehearsals. We have 2 new band members now. We now have another David who’s playing bass, Dave haha. Our new drummer is named Jerry, and he’s about a foot taller than me. We’ll be rehearsing for a few days, and then have our first show Saturday in Del Mar, California! The first show for the Demi tour will be back in Connecticut, so it should be interesting going back and forth.

So for the last few days before I came to Connecticut for rehearsals, I was in LA recording for the Christmas album that’s coming out this year! I’m really really excited for that because I love Christmas music and Christmas times. I was also working on some material for the next pop album as well. It’s gonna be crazy working on all the stuff this Summer along with the tour, but I’m sooo excited you guys! Oh, how I love music lol. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what will become of everything, because I’m really not sure how it’s going to end up. It’s the kind of thing that you don’t know what’s going to happen until it happens. I really want to work with more people on writing though and get that part of my brain exercised and movin’.

Today I found out that I was nominated for 3 teen choice awards! One for breakout artist, one for love song, and one for tour (with Demi Lovato.) Before I came to Connecticut, I got to spend the night (and just for the night, not even day) in Utah. I couldn’t sleep, and I mentioned the cats on twitter… But I wrote a letter to a friend and put it in the mailbox that night, or I guess morning lol, so I wouldn’t forget to send it before I had to leave to CT. Well funny thing, when I turned the door knob it was locked. You can open it inside but not on the outside. I didn’t have my phone with me, and no one was answering the door. I tried throwing small pebbles at the window but that didn’t work either. So there I was in my PJ’s outside, without shoes, and cold! I ran down the street to keep the blood going and went to a friend’s house, hoping they’d be awake or more responsive than at my place haha. I knocked on the window that I thought was my friend’s room, but I’m guessing that I guessed wrong or he wasn’t awake, or something. I went back to the front and just knocked on the door, and thankfully his dad happened to be awake. So he opens the door and there I am standing in my PJ’s feeling stupid, but I was so glad to go inside somewhere warm! Anyway I eventually got back into the house, and headed to the airport a couple hours later heh. Well I thought I’d share that story with you all lol.

Ok, I’m done now. With the exception of the story, I did a pretty good job keeping things short, right? Well until next time everyone! Cheers.

New Band Members

Alex and Eli has left the band..and 2 new members, Dave and Jerry will be joining them as they tour this summer.

Drummer, Jerry Roe’s MySpace:

I play drums. I play drums in a band. I play drums in a few bands actually, as well as do it for a living. I also play bass for a living. I would like to be a professional yodeler. I think that’s really neat. Some days I’ll walk over to the highest point I can find in the surrounding area, and yodel all day long, or until someone strikes me in the head with an object and/or fists.

As far as projects I’m currently involved with are concerned, I play drums in a few bands. Bands I have played with are named Head Automatica, another Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers, another Keating (who is now referred to as Paper Rival). I also work freelance around town as a drummer and bassist, and can be seen on occasion playing drums for numerous country, rock, americana, metal, and rockabilly bands/artists around Nashville, which is the town I currently reside and was born and also raised in. I like it here. I can make money doing what I love to do, and it’s very easy to be creative and original here, because nobody else is really doing it yet.

A native of Northern California, I now live in LA and work in the music industry as a bassist and producer. In my career, I have had the honor of working/performing with many great artists including Reeves Gabrels, Richie Kotzen, The Rembrandts, Phil Solem, Peter DiStefano Band (Porno For Pyros), Derek Sholl, Terri Nunn (Berlin), Michelle Shocked, Dave Wakeling (English Beat, General Public), Macy Gray,Bret Michaels (Poison), Great White, One Tribe Nation, D’Amato, Patti Rayne, Michael”Angelo”Battio. On the Film/TV side my credits for composition include: A&E, Bravo, Discovery, MTV, Cinemax, as well as a number of film soundtracks that have been played worldwide. Currently I am honored to be the touring bassist for Richie Kotzen (www.richiekotzen.com). We just recently returned from a great tour of Europe in support of his latest release “Live from San Paulo”. And for the last five years I have been the touring bassist for multi platinum act “The Rembrandts”. I am also busy producing and writing new tracks for various artists and projects for film/TV. All in all, life in the music industry is interesting to say the least. No two days are ever the same and along the journey I have experienced the best and worst days of my life. Hey All,

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you all how much I love you. You are an incredible bunch of people and I really enjoyed getting to know some of you both on and off the road. I have so many amazing memories of the first few tours and a lot of them are credited to you.

Playing with David has been an unbelievable experience. I’ve learned so many things along the way too…. One important thing I learned is that sometimes chasing your dream pays off. With faith, persistence, and a good heart, many things become possible. For me, I got to live my dream for a little… even better- I got to share it with all of you. God gave me a huge blessing.

Unfortunately, I wont be going on the summer tour with David. I will miss seeing you all and chatting it up, but remember I’m only one stop away in cyber space. For now you can find me in the virtual land called MySpace. I hope you all keep in touch with me, as I will also keep in touch with you. Thank you for all of the support you showed me these past 5 months, and thank you for accepting me as your friend. You are amazing.

I really love this version of the song. The added verse was brilliant. And of course, who can deny the fact that this boy wonder can sing? His voice is simply amazing! The added upbeat to the tempo was catching and interesting too. Makes me wanna dance LOL.

A Thousand Miles
This song really brings out the intensity and purity of David’s voice as the only background music is the piano. It is sweet and simple; not complicated. You can hear that his voice is stronger and clearer in his version of this song. Brilliant.

I have a Dream

Well not merely a dream. More like a resolve really to achieve something, maybe miraculous, but not entirely out of the realms of the possible. After hearing David sing live in Malaysia for a short 20 minutes at Sunway, there’s this nagging feeling of unfulfillment ; a hunger not quite satiated and still raring for more, much more, of the same.

So I have this dream of bringing David back to Malaysia for a full concert. “Bringing?,” you may ask. That’s quite a bold stance to adopt almost as if I have the actual means to get him to Malaysia. Well I feel I have the most important asset to draw upon in my quest and that is you, you and you. Yes dear AAMers and other fans of David out there who left Sunway that day thankful for the opportunity to hear him live; shouting yourself hoarse and feeling the pounding of your heart and the rush of blood through your system. We all left Sunway that day breathless and high from excitement. It was a good feeling wasn’t it? Some of you managed to relive that day at Manila but many of us didn’t get to enjoy the experience of a full David concert. So the purpose of my post – a petition.

This time our petition must be wider in scope and more ambitious in objectives. We are targetting 5000 names this time and the dateline is end August to gather that number. I don’t think it’s too difficult a target to achieve judging from the size of the crowd at Sunway in April. The petition is just one aspect of this project.

We are also going to create a video consisting of stills and video clips from fans with messages expressing their desire for David to come back for a full concert. So we need your help here in providing photos of you and/or your friends or video clips that are not more than 30 secs long . Group shots would be ideal as we ‘re aiming for volume here. The more the merrier.

Also we need to design a mock poster promoting David’s concert here as if it is really going to happen. If we have a clear and tangible vision of what we trying to achieve than the easier it is to realize that dream. For this we need your artistic and graphic expertise to design the poster with which we can ‘promote’ the idea to media, other fansites , concert promoters, radio and David’s team itself.

Yes we will be sending all these material to Jive, Azoff Management and David himself to let him see the dedication of his followers here. That’s the ultimate audience that we want to target with this exercise. So please lend your support by logging on to this link : David Archuleta concert in Malaysia and submit your signatures. Add it to your own blogs so that your readers can lend their support as well. Please submit your graphic ideas, photos and video clips as soon as you can.

An impossible task you may think; a bridge too far but a lot of wonderful things have been achieved by daring to dream. A journey of a thousand miles must necessarily start with that first important step. We must take that leap of faith that together we can achieve this. Failure is not an option.
