IMAGINE and its 5th Anniversary

Unmistakably, this is what we looked like after we heard David’s Imagine 5 years ago                                                                                        on February 27 2008

..thumped into pancakes..burnt to a turn..                                                                                                                                                                          ..thudded and slayed.. torn and shredded..                                                                                                                                                                 ..mauled and maimed..tortured and tormented..                                                                                                                                                     ..blown and busted..canned and jellied..                                                                                                                                                                       ..imploded and exploded..frenzied and forever cursed..                                                                                                                                       ..our mortal remains thrown into the river and eaten up by crocodiles..                                                                                                            And thus begins our journey of Rapture and Ruin with the Archulator

Haha.. rather OTT spazzing..but we are all OTT David-fans here, aren’t we?   On a more serious note, this is taken from my 2008 diary…or journal, as David calls it.

“I turn up the volume on my tv as the guitar strums and David prepares to sing.   As I listen, I begin to take flight..I am swept deeply into another dimension which I can describe only as ecstasy put to music.   There is no fuss or clutter..no whimsical dancers and gestures..no theatrical smokes..no mechanical disturbances or choruses – just this young man standing alone in the spotlight in the middle of the stage, wearing a casual attire of jeans and a leather jacket, addressing my soul and telling it a story, with a voice that is pure, pristine and persuasive – the voice completely filling my room, completely fulfilling my soul.   Within that voice, I catch a glimpse of the beauty which pervades his inner self and beholds a flame that burns inside him.”

What astounds me further is this version sung 2 years later, is even more impressive.   Some may not agree with me but I think he sings it at the piano this time with more skill, more control, more calm and more introversion;   he has become a true professional.   There is no surprise element this time….just continued bliss.

John Lennon’s lyrics are indeed praiseworthy but David, with his beautiful interpretive skills, make them take on a deeper meaning and the song, more profoundly felt.   He says to Imagine, and I have imagined many things:

I imagine David having many more IMAGINE moments in the future.

I imagine David finally realising the importance of engaging a manager and music producers who equal his calibre and who understand his musical path, bringing him back to producing more Imagine moments.

I imagine David receiving Grammys and other awards in the future with his Imagine moments.

I imagine more success for singers, who can give us quality music to improve our youth culture and our values and thinking.

I also imagine lots of other things like human conflicts coming to an end…more compassion instilled amongst different peoples of the world…that more people realising that SELF is just a microscopic speck (if at all) in the universe…that the homeless and refugees at last securing a safe and protective roof over their heads…that animals and nature get their fair share in this beautiful planet….

Yes, this song has made me imagine a multitude of things.   What about you?   Has David’s Imagine compelled you to imagine beyond your own personal lives?
